The Cooper Memorial Library will host its inaugural chess tournament on Saturday, May 4,  at 9 am on the first floor in room 108. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

“We’re excited to host this tournament, ranked by the U.S. Chess Federation,” said Boyd Bruce, Regional Branch Supervisor of the Cooper Memorial Library. “Our library recently extended its hours, giving us the opportunity to hold major events like this on the weekend. These tournaments attract players from hundreds of miles away, so it will be great for the community.”

Connor Eickelman, a teen volunteer, teaches chess and formed the Cooper Chess Club last year. He’s also looking forward to the tournament. “Chess is a fun way to make friends, challenge your mind and build confidence,” Eickelman said. “This event will set the groundwork for future tournaments in the area.”
