Montverde Academy continues to build its lacrosse program with the hiring of Chris Spaulding, who will serve as Director of Lacrosse and an Upper School Advanced Placement ® U.S. history teacher. Spaulding, an experienced educator with more than 20 years of experience and four-time Florida High School Athletic Association state championship-winning coach, will join Coach Brooks Sweet, a Hall of Fame inductee and STX Lacrosse pioneer, to lead MVA’s lacrosse program.

Spaulding earned a 176-46 record over his more than 12 years as a varsity lacrosse coach at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, where he also served as a history teacher. He earned the U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Year and Florida Dairy Farmer’s Coach of the Year four times and led his lacrosse team to four state championships. He has achieved a 90 percent pass rate in AP U.S. history for five consecutive years. Prior to working at Lake Highland Prep, Spaulding taught and coached at Elmira Notre Dame High School in Elmira, New York for nearly seven years. While there, he earned the Golden Apple “Outstanding Teaching” Award in New York State.

“Chris brings with him all the qualities we seek in an experienced educator who has positively affected the lives of his students,” said Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring, Montverde Academy Headmaster. “It is rare to have a school excel in so many different aspects on a national level, and it is also rare to find individuals who can serve in multiple capacities. At Montverde Academy, we aspire to hire the best teachers and coaches to serve our students, and Chris Spaulding represents those qualities. He is an outstanding addition to our academic and athletic programs, serving our students on their path to excellence.”
