The City of Clermont recognizes this week as the 50th anniversary of Municipal Clerks Week.
A proclamation signed by Clermont Mayor Gail Ash honors Clermont’s Clerk Department from May 5-11. Clermont joins other cities around the world in honoring the week, sponsored by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).
“It is important for the public to be aware of Clermont’s Clerk Department and all that they do,” Clermont City Manager Darren Gray said. “They are the link between our citizens, local government and other agencies of government. We thank them for their vital services to the Clermont community.”
Tracy Ackroyd Howe has served as Clermont’s city clerk since 2003 and is active in the Florida Association of City Clerks. Howe has been a member of IIMC since 1997 and received her Master Municipal Clerk designation from the organization. In 2018, she spearheaded the inaugural Clermont Youth Council.
Municipal clerks’ duties include serving as the council’s foundation, preparing agendas, taking minutes, maintaining ordinance and resolution files, keeping the municipality’s historical records, and serving as the clearinghouse for information about the local government. The city clerk attests all official city documents, as well as ensures compliance with the State of Florida Public Records laws serving as the city’s records management liaison officer. Clermont’s Clerk Department also oversees election qualifying and the city’s Oak Hill Cemetery.
