The purpose of the Capital Projects Funding program, which is funded through the Lake County Tourist Development Tax, is to allow local organizations, owned and operated by not-for-profit organizations and open to the public for recreational activities, cultural events and performances, to apply for funds for capital infrastructure projects that will enhance Lake County as a tourist destination.

The due date for applications for Capital Projects Funding is 4 pm on Friday, August 23, with the first preliminary hearing scheduled for 3 pm on Monday, October 7 and the second hearing set for 3 pm on Monday, October 21. Both hearings will take place at the Lake County Board of County Commissioners’ Board Chambers, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares.

The Tourist Development Capital Projects Funding Program was created to process requests for tourist development tax funds to be used for capital projects. The Lake County Tourist Development Tax was created to fund the promotion of tourism and attract tourists to visit Lake County. The Lake County Tourist Development Council was established to recommend to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, uses of the Tourist Development Tax revenue in accordance with the Lake County Tourist Development Plan.
