On Saturday, August 10th from 1 pm to 3:00 pm, the Historic Village will be the site of the first People’s Choice Dessert Challenge!  Several merchants, known for their sweets, like Blender Boyz, Bruster’s, Chick-fil-A, Corelli’s Italian Ristorante, Hole Lotta Doughnuts, and Ritter’s Frozen Custard, will be on hand with free samples for everyone to try.  After you have had a chance to taste all the desserts you can vote for your favorite one.  The merchants will even have plenty of delicious sweets available for purchase. The Clermont Historic Village is located at 490 West Ave., not far from the Historic Downtown Shopping District.

The Village is home to five historic structures and two replicas from Clermont’s history which will be open during the Challenge and for one hour afterward.  This will give you plenty of time to enjoy sampling the desserts and touring the buildings, especially the Townsend House with its beautiful new shingle roof that was recently installed thanks to the City of Clermont and generous donations.  Admission to the Village is always free.  A donation of $3.00 per person is requested.

If you are interested in history in general or the history of South Lake County in particular, contact the Clermont Historical Society by going to ClermontVillage.org; by calling our manager, Roxanne Brown, at 352-432-3496 or by attending Historical Society membership meetings which are held on the second Monday of every month except in July and August at 7:00 pm in the Train Depot in the Historic Village.

Next meeting is September 9th.
