Lake County students are heading back to school on Monday. These next few weeks will be a little confusing and stressful for students and parents and annoying to some impatient drivers.
Drivers, Be Cautious: If you aren’t a student or parent, make every effort to steer clear of school areas during the beginning and end of the school day.
Schools In South Lake (Instructional Day)
Elementary Schools: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Middle Schools: 9:20 am to 4:00 pm
High School: 7:20 am to 2:20 pm.
Lake County Schools caution everyone on the roads to be alert and watch for children, especially near schools, bus stops, school buses and in school parking lots.
- Watch for and obey signals from school crossing guards;
- Only drive or park in authorized areas to drop off or pick up children at school; and
- Stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing and STOP arm extended.
This year, Texting and driving is against the law, and soon the law will prohibit drivers from even holding a wireless device while in a designated school crossing, school zone or an active work zone where workers are present. Hands-free use, such as through a Bluetooth device, will still be allowed.
If you’re near a school, put down your phone.
