FREE conference! In an effort to connect individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, caregivers or guardians, with Government Agencies to secure the services they need, Building Blocks Ministries will be hosting a conference open to the community on Tuesday, September 17th. The Conference will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at FAITH Neighborhood Center located at 14727 Timber Village Road, Groveland, FL 34736. Representatives from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and Vocational Rehabilitation will provide information regarding services and how to apply.

This conference is being made possible by a grant award from the Lake County Board of County Commissioners Health and Human Services grant program FY 2018-19 to support a need for families to connect to agencies whose offices are located outside of south Lake County. To date over 25 individuals and families have received assistance with completing the application with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities or the navigating the “waitlist” process. Thank you Lake County Board of County Commissioners for your support!

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is the agency who determines if an individual is eligible for services under the iBudget Home and Community Based Services Waiver. This waiver helps the individual and their families pay for services such as; day training, transportation, group homes, personal supports, and more. The process begins with an initial questioner form that must be completed and submitted to the Agency. Building Blocks’ Case Manager will also be available to provide support as the families walk through the application process. A Supported Employment Liaison from APD will also share about services and support available for individuals who are interested in working in the community. `

Representatives from Florida Department of Education Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Winter Garden office, will present information about Preplacement Training, Self-Advocacy and Supported Employment. They will also provide referral forms for interested individuals to complete to register for services.
