Montverde Academy proudly presented the Green Turtle Cay Foundation with a check for $11,000 to help rebuild Green Turtle Cay, one of the smaller Bahamian islands, after the catastrophic Hurricane Dorian that has left many of the tiny island nation’s people without the essentials of food, water, clothing, and shelter.

Students in the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, faculty, and staff contributed a $10 donation to enjoy a casual dress day recently. With this event, the Academy raised $11,000 for The Green Turtle Cay Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists to promote, develop, redevelop, encourage and maintain housing, education, healthcare, employment, commerce, economic development, and transportation facilities in the Green Turtle Cay, Abaco community. Green Turtle Cay suffered damage to approximately 90 percent of the structures on the island.

“This gift from Montverde Academy will have a huge impact on the island of Green Turtle Cay,” said Phillip Smith, president of the Green Turtle Cay Foundation. “The only school on this small island was devasted by Hurricane Dorian and the needs are great. This generous gift will be used to purchase much-needed supplies for the students and the school. It will be a huge step toward restoring life on the islands for its Bahamian residents.”

“Community is one of the ideals that Montverde Academy is rooted in and this donation is a demonstration of how deeply ingrained that ideal is here,” said Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring, Headmaster, Montverde Academy. “Thank you to our students, faculty, staff, and families who graciously supported this effort to help others in need. We wish the Green Turtle Cay Foundation well as they take on the task of rebuilding their community.”
