As Veterans Day approaches, the Lake County Animal Shelter is proud to offer free pet adoptions for veterans during the month of November. This promotion was made possible by a $200 donation from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Ellen Robertson Chapter.

“ We are honored to accept this donation from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as we know this assistance will benefit both our local veterans and our homeless pets,” said Whitney Boylston, Lake County Animal Shelter Director.

In partnership with the Lake County Animal Shelter, the non-profit is launching a “Companion Pets for Vets” project, that will provide pet adoption assistance to current and former military vets in November.

“Pets have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their humans,” said Charyl Winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution. “Caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness. We hope this project will enrich the lives of our military veterans and their families, and find loving forever homes for homeless pets.”
