The Tomoka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and South Lake County’s I.W. Hatcher, Jr. Marine Corps League (MCL) Detachment 1120 have partnered with the City of Clermont and other local service organizations to honor veterans of all military services on November 11, 2019, from 11 am to noon at the Clermont Waterfront Park, 330 Third Street, Clermont, FL.

In addition to the DAR and the MCL, other organizations that will participate in honoring our veterans are the Clermont chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), local Scout troops, the South Lake High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), South Lake High School’s Bella A Cappella choral group, local performers and speakers, and the Marine Corps League Color Guard with a 21-gun Salute.

The purpose of the Veteran’s Day tribute is to honor the men and women who have served our nation to ensure our ongoing freedom and security. November 11, 2019, is the 101st anniversary commemorating the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at 11:00 am—the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.”

The event is from 11 am to noon. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 10:45 am.

Attendees will be able to provide donations for various patriotic items offered by the VFW and the MCL. The DAR will be accepting monetary gifts and personal items for Operation Shoebox. Operation Shoebox is a program that sends packages filled with items to military men and women serving overseas. The MCL will be accepting donations of new toys for its Toys for Tots campaign. Toys for Tots is a program that collects toys and personal items for children in need in our local community.
