Beautiful view, isn’t it? How would you like to spend one or two afternoons a month right there? Well, you can, if you volunteer at the Clermont Historic Village! As you can see, the Village is located right on the shores of beautiful Lake Minneola at 490 West Avenue. The Historic Village is a unique partnership between the city of Clermont and the Clermont Historical Society. The city owns and maintains the land and the buildings. The Historical Society owns and maintains all the furnishings and memorabilia in the buildings and conducts tours every Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The Village is home to several buildings that are an important part of the history of Clermont including the home of the first African-American family to settle permanently in Clermont, the original Cooper Memorial Library, a World War II Quonset hut, and much more. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the inside of the buildings, to conduct tours, to assist with special events, and to help with publicity and public relations.
Membership in the Clermont Historical Society is only $25.00 per person and $35.00 for a couple but it is not necessary to be a member to volunteer. To learn more about the Clermont Historical Society check out our Facebook page or come to one of our monthly meetings. The meetings are held on the second Monday of the month in the Train Depot at the Historic Village, 490 West Ave.
The board meetings (open to the public) are at 6:00 pm followed by a presentation at 7:00 pm. The next meeting will be on December 9th. Board members and officers for 2020 will be elected at this meeting.
