The East Ridge High School boys basketball team’s official tryouts and practices began on Monday, November 4.  The team has had several weeks of practice to get themselves ready for their first week of play in the 2019-20 season.  The Knights are looking forward to their first game this Tuesday and seek to improve from last season.

Last season the Knights finished with nine wins and twelve losses. This season the East Ridge boys’ basketball team is placed in Class 7A District 6 with the following teams: Haines City High School, Windermere High School, Celebration High School, Ridge Community High School, and Osceola High School.  They hope to make some noise in the district this season and improve from their district tournament performance last season.  Last season, East Ridge fell to Edgewater High School in a quarterfinal game in the district tournament.

East Ridge has a large group of seniors who are eager to hit the floor soon.  The Knights will be led by returning seniors Austin Grant, Treasure Bennett, Jorell Cuthbert, Malik Favours, Dawson Metcalf, and Gavin Schepman.  As well, senior Dwanye Maduro, who was not on the roster last season, but played on the Knights’ junior varsity as a sophomore, has returned this season.  The Knights will also have senior transfer Kyle Stanley on the team this season.  Junior Jasyn Kassim and sophomore Roshaun Thomas, who were members of the junior varsity team last season, will play on varsity this season.  Key junior transfers Julian Cheese, Isaiah Morgan, Lyron Rouse, and Jhon Viana-Filho will round out the Knights’ 2019-20 roster.  The Knights are coached by Mike Clutter, who is in his eighteenth season as the varsity head coach at East Ridge High School.

This week the Knights will open up at home by hosting three games. On Tuesday, December 3, the Knights have their home opener with Toho High School out of Kissimmee for a 7:30 tip-off.  On Thursday night, December 5, East Ridge will play Foundation Academy out of Winter Garden. The tip-off is 7:00 pm.

Last season, East Ridge defeated Foundation Academy in both regular-season contests.  On Friday December 6, the Knights will finish off their first week of play by hosting Dunnellon High School scheduled for a 7:00 tip-off. Last season, the Knights defeated Dunnellon in their only regular-season contest. Below is the schedule of meets for the East Ridge Knights for the 2019 season:
