SPECIAL EVENT BALLET: THE NUTCRACKER

Monday, December 9 at 1:45 pm

The Friends of the Cooper Memorial Library will host a special event showing of the ballet The Nutcracker on Monday, December 9, at 1:45 p.m. in room 108.

The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, by way of Alexandre Dumas’ adapted story “The Story of a Nutcracker”. It was given its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg on Sunday, 18 December 1892.

This is a free program and light refreshments will be provided during the intermission for our guests.

CHANUKAH FAMILY FUN AT THE COOPER MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Monday, December 23 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

The Friends of the Cooper Memorial Library will host Chanukah Family Fun at the Cooper Memorial Library in the community room 108. All ages are welcome to join the fun-filled afternoon to celebrate Chanukah, the Festival of Lights.

Chanukah celebrates the triumph of light over darkness. Customs include eating foods fried in oil, like sufganiyot (deep-fried doughnuts), playing with the dreidel (a spinning top inscribed with Hebrew letters), and the giving of gelt (gifts of money, chocolate coins) to children to inspire them and to remind adults to make tzedakah (charity) a central part of their lives.

Come enjoy holiday stories, songs, crafts, games, music, candy, and prizes! There will also be plenty of chocolate coins! Join Rabbi Steve at the library for an afternoon of family fun.
