The 2020-21 school year will begin on Monday, August 10, 2020, for Lake County Schools and will include Veterans Day as a student holiday, five days off at Thanksgiving and a little more than two weeks off for winter break.

The new calendar was approved by the School Board at its December 9 meeting after employees and the community had an opportunity to choose between two options through an online survey.

The options had some distinct differences:

Option 1 had the earlier start date of Monday, August 10, 2020, with Friday, September 4, 2020, and Wednesday, November 11, 2020 (Veterans Day) as days when students do not attend school. They would return after Winter Break on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Option 2 had a later start date of Thursday, August 13, 2020, with Friday, September 4, 2020, and Wednesday, November 11, 2020 (Veterans Day) as days when students attend school. They would return from Winter Break on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Links to the surveys were posted on the district web site and on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Additionally, a notice was sent home to parents districtwide via the Peachjar web application.

With 78% of employees and 73% of the community choosing Option 1 in the survey, staff recommended approval of Option 1 to the School Board, and board members voted unanimously in favor of Option 1 at their meeting.
