Clermont Police Department will bring children holiday cheer with a special shopping spree.

Clermont Police will host its annual Heroes and Helpers event at 8:30 am on Friday, December 20 at Target, 2660 East State Road 50.

This program is largely supported by the city’s local Target, which focuses on helping children in need shop with a first responder for holiday presents. Children who need a little extra help this holiday season can shop the store with a “hero” and purchase presents for themselves or their loved ones.

“What makes our particular event so special is that the children are selected by our very own officers while they serve the community,” Sgt. Malcolm Draper said. “Clermont Police officers, along with other first responders, will help make this a memorable experience for the children.”

The Clermont Police Department, along with McDonald’s, also participated in fundraisers called “McCop Nights” throughout November to help raise funds for Heroes and Helpers. Officers assisted at local McDonald’s by serving food and accepting donations; McDonald’s also donated a portion of the sales.

Plus, the Target Corporation donated funds through a grant to help make the shopping experience possible.

This will be the sixth year that Clermont Police Department has participated in Heroes and Helpers. About 70 children are expected to come out and shop this year.
