Lake-Sumter State College’s Continuing Education courses are non-credit courses offered to support or enhance business, industry, government, and general recreation in the communities of Lake and Sumter Counties.

Florida Child Care Professional Credential
The Florida Child Care Professional is a child care provider who has successfully completed a FCCPC assessment and has been awarded the FCCPC Credential. Through an assessment process, the FCCPC has to demonstrate competence in her/his ability to meet the specific needs of children, as well as working with parents and other adults to nurture children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth.
This 120-hour classroom program is designed to incorporate activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Eight content areas identified by the Council for Professional Recognition will be covered.
Students meeting all of the above criteria will be awarded the FCCPC Credential Certificate.
Applicants for the FCCPC must
- be at least 18 years old
- be able to speak, read, and write well enough to fulfill the responsibilities of a FCCPC candidate
- sign a statement of ethical conduct
- be observed as a lead caregiver
- have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- have completed 40 hours of state-mandated online training
- be employed or be volunteering in day care or preschool setting.

Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is open to the community to players of all levels. We will do a wide variety of music. Each semester will culminate with a free concert open to the community.

Write Your Life
The “Write Your Life” course consists of a variety of short sections that examine your life from differing perspectives. It is geared towards seniors with little or no formal writing experience. Worksheets are concise and encourage you to explore the nature of your life. You then put it together in an interesting and readable form. You will be coached with every step in the creation of the story of your life, which will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.

Excel is a powerful spreadsheet program that allows you to make quick and accurate numerical calculations and helps you to make your data look sharp and professional. Entry Level Dental Assisting
One of the top reasons to start a Dental Assisting Career should be career potential. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the job outlook for Dental Assistants is excellent. If you are seeking a stable, rewarding and satisfying career opportunity, dental assisting can be that career. No two days will ever be the same and your job will continuously renew itself. Dental Assisting is a career that will always be in demand and in need of enthusiastic, trained, and caring individuals.
The program is designed for the individual who wants to gain the basic knowledge and skills necessary to enter the professional field of dental assisting quickly without incurring a burdensome debt and loss of time at their current job. The program meets 10 consecutive Saturdays and has an internship of 32 hours. The class is made up of lecture and clinical, hands-on training, and provides training needed to step right into a dental office as a qualified assistant.
You will be prepared to: Work under the supervision of a dentist – make temporary crowns, make casts of teeth, clean removable appliances; Interact with patients – advise about dental care, get dental history; Manage dental tools — prepare patients for treatment, disinfect tools, arrange tools on dental tray; Perform administrative duties — schedule appointments, maintain records.
Subjects covered in depth from both a theory and practical clinical experience: Dental Theory and Terminology; Four-handed Dental Assisting; Radiology; Impressions and Model Trimming; Sterilization Techniques; Job Interview Techniques; and 32-hour Internship.
Total Cost of Course is $2,500**
