Sixteen middle and high schools in Lake County have been selected to participate in the 20th annual Florida Youth Survey, a collaborative effort among the Florida departments of Health, Education and Children and Families.

In each school selected, a sample of classes will be chosen to participate. Students will randomly receive either the Florida Youth Tobacco Survey or the Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey.

Student privacy will be protected, as students are allowed to take the survey anonymously. No names or other identifying information will be included on the questionnaires. Additionally, students do not have to respond to any questions they are not comfortable answering. There will be no action taken against any child who chooses not to participate.

Survey results will help officials evaluate the impact of Florida’s program to prevent and reduce youth tobacco use. The results also will provide information on alcohol and other drug use, attitudes and behaviors; risk and protective factors; adverse childhood experiences and the community context that influences these variables.

In Lake, the survey will be administered on February 4 and 5.

The participating schools in Lake are Carver Middle, East Ridge High, East Ridge Middle, Eustis High, Eustis Middle, Cecil E. Gray Middle, Lake Minneola High, Leesburg High, Mount Dora High, Mount Dora Middle, South Lake High, Tavares High, Tavares Middle, Umatilla High, Umatilla Middle, Windy Hill Middle.
