Clermont Police will take part in Operation Dry Streets, a joint initiative focused on keeping roads safe for citizens and visitors across Florida, with enforcement operations from March 13-15. The Florida Sheriffs Association, Florida Police Chiefs Association and Florida Highway Patrol also will participate.
The operation targets those who drive impaired or otherwise jeopardize public safety by disobeying Florida’s traffic laws. This involves a three-day operation in all 67 Florida counties that includes identifying traffic violators and visible signs of impairment, enhancing overall safety and raising community awareness.
“We look forward to collaborating with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement agencies throughout the state to make a positive impact on the safety of those who travel our roadways,” Chief Charles Broadway said. “Ultimately, we hope to save lives.”
The goal is to create a safe environment to protect citizens and visitors with a statewide presence, enforcement and education efforts.
The safety of citizens and visitors in our communities is of paramount importance to Florida law enforcement, especially roadway safety. This operation will serve as a proactive campaign and a public awareness effort to ensure the safety of those traveling on the roadways and highways not only in Clermont, but also throughout Florida.
Statistics to be collected during the campaign include the numbers of warnings and uniform traffic citations issued, DUI arrests made, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked or no DL arrests/criminal citations, and misdemeanor and felony drug charges.
