Important Message to the Residents of Lake County:

Lake County now has 14 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in Lake County in each of the following locations: Eustis, Sorrento, Lady Lake, The Villages, Mascotte, Groveland, Clermont (2), Leesburg (5), and one unknown location. Four people are currently in the hospital.

If you are a senior or if your immune system is compromised for any reason, we are asking that you stay at home at this time to avoid any contact with someone who might be infected with the COVID-19 virus.

Please do not go to the store or out into public places, but instead ask friends, relatives or delivery services to bring food, prescriptions or other supplies to you. I realize this is an inconvenience, but it may save your life. This is a highly contagious virus that is easily transmitted.

If you are in the workforce or you are going out into public places but you live in a household with a senior or someone with a compromised immune system, it is very important that you do not bring the virus into your home and therefore you should consider staying at home or staying somewhere else at this time.

If you are bringing food or supplies to others or visiting loved ones, do not go into their home; maintain a distance from them when making deliveries, wash your hands and all containers that might have come in contact with this virus, and remind them to throw away bags and containers immediately and wash their hands after handling them.

If you have not taken these types of precautions up until now, I ask you to implement them immediately. It is not too late. In fact, based on the numbers and locations of cases we are seeing in Lake County, now is the time to be most diligent.

If you live alone or feel that you have no one to help you, please consider contacting relatives who live elsewhere to ask them to help set up deliveries for you or to find services that are available here in Lake County.

We have significant resources on our website atlakecountyfl.gov/COVID-19.

With appreciation,
