During this time of uncertainty, many families are experiencing personal hardship. To assist residents with ways to acquire meals more easily, the City of Groveland introduced its “Let’s Eat” Initiative, partnering with local organizations, restaurants, food trucks and farmers, to increase meal options and availability.

On Friday, April 10, between 4 pm and 6 pm, the City of Groveland partnered with Hope International Church and local sponsors in a “Thinking of You” gesture to provide enough free pizzas and two-liter bottles of coke to feed 600 families! In observance of CDC health safety recommendations, the event was held as a drive-thru style distribution event.

Vehicles drove under the breezeway where volunteers wearing long sleeves and gloves handed drivers their free pizza and liter of coke, while supplies lasted. People were asked to remain in their vehicles throughout the entire process and continue driving once they had received their meal.

The second distribution of food will be given to South Lake Hospital Health Care Providers and City of Groveland first responders, Police and Fire Department.

The local business who helped to make this event possible were:

  • Chefing It UP Pizza Café
  • Domino’s Pizza
  • Corelli’s Italian Restaurant
  • Little Caesar’s Pizza
  • Steel Worx Solutions LLC

“As we continue to weather this COVID-19 storm together, we want our residents to know how much we care,” said Mayor Evelyn Wilson.  “Everyone has to eat”.

The City recognizes that frontline workers such as healthcare professionals and first responders need extra support during this time, as well as those families who have now transitioned to an at-home routine.  Having this one meal can help a family tremendously, as many are now having to find meals for their children who are no longer in school.

“We are proud to team up with the City of Groveland and local sponsors, to express our love for the community during this pandemic,” said Hope International Church Senior Pastor, Dr. Tony McCoy.  “Love is best expressed when we all come together to see each other’s needs – love never fails.”
