SPECIAL ELECTION: Brishke’s resignation leaves a vacancy on Seat 4. A special election for Clermont Seat 4 will be included on the November 3rd ballot. To qualify, Clermont residents who are interested in running need to file between Monday, August 17 noon and August 21 noon. If there are more than 2 candidates running for Clermont Seat 4, on November 3rd, the candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote will be elected. If none of the candidates receive a majority vote, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will participate in a run-off. In the meantime, Clermont Council will consider if a temporary appointee is needed until the election.
It took everyone by surprise when Clermont City Council Member Heidi Brishke resigned during Tuesday’s Council meeting. She stated that her resignation was for personal reasons and was in no way due to any decisions made by this council, nor is it due to the direction that the city is moving towards.
I had an opportunity to ask Council Member Brishke a few questions about her political journey and she graciously responded.
TABLET: You ran for City Council, Seat 4 in 2017. Why?
Brishke: Before joining Council, I had many of the same concerns as did many Clermont residents regarding increased development, traffic and the removal of our beautiful rolling hills to name a few. I’m not the type to stand by and wait for others to impact a situation, so I became involved.
TABLET: Can you tell me the most rewarding part of the job?
Brishke: Working with this Council, the amazing City staff, partners, and all of our residents has definitely been the most rewarding part of the job.
TABLET: What was the most frustrating part of the job?
Brishke: I don’t know that I would call it frustrating but, in hindsight, I wish I’d gotten involved sooner.
TABLET: What is your proudest moment as council woman?
Brishke: I don’t think I could select just one. Every moment I’ve been able to serve this great city has been amazing.
TABLET: Will you ever run for political office again?
Brishke: I very well may run for office again someday. Politics is challenging but it’s also very rewarding.
TABLET: Is there anything you’d like to say to the people of Clermont?
Brishke: This is a great city and it has been a pleasure to work with and for the residents of Clermont. I wish everyone all the best.
