Carman Cullen’s dedication to the success of Lake County Schools teachers and students is known throughout the county.

Today, her efforts received statewide recognition during a Virtual Partnership Celebration of the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (Consortium) when she was honored for her volunteer leadership in the statewide organization.

The Jim McKenzie Consortium Champion Award is presented annually to a local education foundation leader who steps up as a volunteer leader to support their peers throughout the state. Through exemplifying a spirit of collegiality and sharing their time and resources with colleagues, these education foundation leaders elevate the work of their colleagues and forward the statewide movement.

“We know how tirelessly our executive directors work to lead their own local education foundation, so when they also commit themselves to helping their peers grow and improve it is particularly meaningful,” said Consortium president Mary Chance. “Carman’s consistent involvement and gracious leadership has not gone unnoticed by her colleagues!”

Ms. Cullen has been active with the Consortium since being named Executive Director for the Education Foundation in 2004.  Highlights of her past and current statewide involvement include:

  • Executive Committee 2010-2021
  • Membership Chair 2015– 2017
  • Legislative Chair 2013 – 2015
  • Foundations for Excellence Quality Standards Task Force Member
  • Strategic Planning Team Member

“As the primary recipient of Carman’s hard work and compassion, we at Lake County Schools are thrilled that she has received this honor from her peers,” said Diane Kornegay, Superintendent of Lake County Schools. “It is especially amazing to me that Carman has the time and energy to have such an impact on the organization that is focused on the success of public schools across the State.”

“On behalf of the Education Foundation of Lake County Board of Directors we are extremely proud of Carman and this wonderful, well-deserved recognition,” said James Myers, President of the Board of Directors. “We have observed and benefited from her leadership over the years and it has been especially important during the ongoing pandemic. Carman’s selfless dedication to the students and teachers in our community is an inspiration to all.”
