All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, as well as the Lake County Tax Collector, will be closed Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Additionally, the Supervisor of Elections Office will be closed on Jan. 1. The Property Appraiser will be closed on  Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Lake County Solid Waste’s residential curbside collection service, as well as the Lake County Landfill customer service and residential drop-off, will be open New Year’s Eve, but  closed New Year’s Day.

Solid waste, yard waste and recycling collections that are normally collected on Fridays will shift to Saturdays for both the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Excess garbage and recycling will be collected Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, through Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. To request collection of bulk items, such as furniture, appliances and other large household items, residents should notify their hauler directly or contact Solid Waste at 352-343-3776. No hazardous waste items will be collected. Haulers handle Christmas trees under the same criteria as yard waste, and trees should be free of ornaments and tinsel. Trees must be cut down to 4 feet or less and the trunks cannot be larger than 6 inches in diameter. The Lake County Animal Shelter, located at 12280 County Road 448 in Tavares, will close at 5 p.m. on  Thursday, Dec. 31. The shelter will be closed on  New Year’s Day.

Lake County Connection, the County’s disadvantaged transportation service, and LakeXpress, the fixed-route bus system, will not operate on New Year’s Day, but will operate with regular services on all other days. For more information and schedules, visit www.ridelakexpress.com.

The Department of Health in Lake County, as well as the DOH-Lake testing locations at the Leesburg WIC and Cooper Memorial Library, will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2021 for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Testing as normal on Monday, Dec. 28 and Monday, Jan. 4. The COVID-19 testing location administered by Adult Medicine of Lake County at the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg will close at noon on Dec. 31, and the site will be closed on New Year’s Day.
