Groundhop

It wasn’t a big leap for Punxsutawney Phil to predict that 2021 winter will be hanging on for six more weeks. Winter snowstorms have been raging all over the Eastern Coast and whether it be rodent or man, the preference is to stay inside.

On February 2, 1887, Groundhog Day, was celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If a groundhog came out of its hole on that day and saw its shadow, it would get scared and run back into its burrow, predicting six more weeks of winter weather. Since then, each year, followers of Punxsutawney Phil, await his forecast.

This year, lots of people are following the lead of Punxsutawney Phil by hunkering down, sipping a piping hot cocoa, and watching the movie Groundhog Day, a classic film, starring Bill Murray.
