Friends,

Your Board of County Commissioners heard the request yesterday, February 23, 2021, to amend the Comprehensive Plan to eliminate open space requirements for sand mining in the Green Swamp.

As expected, Commissioner Shields argued against and then motioned to DENY.  Commissioner Parks was in agreement to DENY, but Commissioner Smith requested more time to review the application and the science many of us were citing.   It appeared that Commissioners Blake and Campione were willing to APPROVE, but the motion was made to defer this until a later date so that Commissioner Smith would be comfortable making a decision.  This motion passed.  So the good news is we didn’t lose, but we do need to stay on top of this as the fight is not over.

The Commissioners received over 150 emails OPPOSED which was great, and a dozen folks showed up in person and on Zoom to voice their displeasure.

Thanks for your attention to this critical matter, and you will be hearing from us in the next couple of months.

Thank you!
