Lake County will host virtual sessions to outline program details regarding the Emergency Rental Assistance Program for landlords and property managers on Thursday, March 11 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, March 16 at 10 a.m. The session will also include a question-and-answer period. Each session will cover the same topics, so attendees may participate in the session that best fits their schedule.

The maximum award per applicant is $9,000 with another $1,000 in utility assistance. Tenants may apply for coverage of past due rent back to March 13, 2020, plus the amount of the current/upcoming month’s rent, depending on the timing of the application. If the tenant is currently receiving unemployment benefits and has been unemployed for 90 days or more, the tenant may receive coverage for two additional pre-paid months of rent.

The program is designed to help renting households that are at or below 80% of the area median income, and the burden of proof to establish eligibility and level of need rests on the tenant. Cooperation from the landlord/property manager consists primarily of signing the Lake County Rental Ledger Form, which acknowledges that funding from this program will be applied to outstanding fees on the tenant’s account. Additionally, landlords and property managers will need to provide a Form W-9 after the tenant’s funding is approved.
