The City of Groveland officially opened its city-owned splash pad at the south pavilions’ section of the downtown Lake David Park. Dozens of excited and wet kids, many city dignitaries, local business people attended the grand opening celebration. There was even a willingly wet Groveland Mayor Wilson.
Among the comments heard, “it’s great to see how this park has grown”, “there are a lot of kids here and they all seem to be having a great time” and “thanks for making this available to us all, now”.
Mayor Wilson distributed free celebratory slices of cake. After the cake was gone, she kept her commitment to get wet. She was led to the splash pad and waded right into the fun. The Dawg Howze run by locals Tabon and Kelly Howze was there sharing their gourmet hot dogs with the crowd. Kona Ice was giving out shaved ice to all as well. The City was well represented by Councilmembers Wilson, Radzik, and Gaines, Staff (including Parks, Facilities, and Community Services Director Mike Walker), and community committee volunteers Amanda Traywick and Paula Hall.
As always there were excited boys at the cake table. There were a couple who came up with blue lips (the cake had blue icing!) and chattering teeth asking for more cake. They could hardly wait to finish their cake before rushing back to the water. The parents were all nearby watching and enjoying the mirth while the kids splashed and ran around. The entire park was busy and parking at a premium but everyone seemed comfortable with the city event and facilities.
