Lake County Schools is looking for new bus drivers and is planning a Transportation Job Fair on June 7 to find them. Driving assignments begin this summer.

The district is down 22 drivers this year and has had to rely on substitute drivers to help fill in the gaps. Additionally, drivers are needed to transport students to an increased number of summer programs and to the new Lake Pointe Academy when it opens in south Lake in the fall.

The job fair will be the district’s first hybrid hiring event, offering job seekers the choice to interview in person or virtually. Drivers and substitutes are needed at all five bus lots — in Clermont, Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis and Mount Dora. The district will cover the cost of training and acquiring a commercial driver’s license (CDL) for successful applicants.

Bus monitor and diesel mechanic positions are available as well.

The Transportation Job Fair is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, June 7, online or at the Clermont Bus Lot, 20265 US Highway 27 N. In-person applicants are asked to bring a resume and a mask. Virtual applicants must have access to stable Wi-Fi.

Participants are asked to register in advance at https://bit.ly/2Q3utBu.
