Groveland Mayor Evelyn Wilson

The City of Groveland is pleased to announce its partnership with the Challenged Champions and Heroes Organization, to host a Special Needs Award Ceremony on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Challenged Champions and Heroes (CCH) is a national organization that looks to bring honor and recognition to the physically and mentally challenged people of the world, along with their families and caregivers. Challenged Champions and Heroes was founded by Dr. Robin Lococo.

Dr. Robin Lococo is a 2018 U.S. Lifetime Achievement Presidential Award Winner and a Congregational Top 20 Women’s Award recipient. Due to her efforts on behalf of those with special needs, the U.S.National Archives issued a National Proclamation Day, every July 29th, as officially designated as National Challenged Champions and Heroes Awareness Day.

The City of Groveland has been designated as a Challenged Champions and Heroes awards ceremony location, due to the inspirational lives of the nominees, and the accessibility that is emerging, of total support services for those families with special needs or disabilities regardless of age.

“The City of Groveland is delighted to partner with Challenged Champions and Heroes to honor our special needs community and their families,” says Mayor Evelyn Wilson. “We look forward to shining the long-overdue spotlight on their achievements.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 24th, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Hope International Church, located at 13806 State Road 33, Groveland, FL 34736. This is a free RSVP’d event in formal or semi-formal attire, open to the public, and will include dinner (before the awards ceremony), and pictures with the awards recipients immediately following the ceremony.

“This national recognition is to bring honor to the heroic daily efforts of the special needs and neurodiverse families living, working, and positively impacting our community,” said Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee Member Joscelyn Campbell. “The City of Groveland is privileged to support and recognize the wonderful nominees and their amazing families. We will continue our work for inclusivity and accessibility for all.”
