Local organizations, volunteers and donors came together on Sunday, July 25th at Hunts Industrial Park Warehouse to help stuff approximately 3,000 backpacks with $100 worth of school supplies for needy children across the South Lake community.  The community project was organized by Charity Across South Lake.  No family or child needed to apply for a free school supply backpacks. South Lake School Guidance Counselors, Administrators and teachers will help each school identify the families and children needing the most help.

The collaborative community project reached across Clermont, Minneola, Montverde, Groveland and Mascotte. There are far too many organizations, families, friends and support groups to individually acknowledge for their community efforts.

The South Lake Chamber of Commerce helped deliver the backpacks, along with a check for each school to provide for a Back to School Teachers Appreciation Breakfast.

Until last year the annual back-to-school celebration was held at the Wesley Center. Teachers and staff from all South Lake County Schools gathered for food, fun, gifts and prizes. Last year, due to COVID guidelines, each school celebrated its own back-to-school breakfast.

Paul Rountree, the president of Project Scholars board of directors, attended the back-pack giveaway to personally thank the south Lake educators and staff for all they do and wish them a great school year.
