Lisa Harris, President and Kathy Henderson, Show Director and Kitty Adler, Youth Art Liaison of the South Lake Art League are pleased to announce the opening of their newest Fall 2021 High School Student Art Show. Students from all area high schools were invited. With help from Jennifer Viola, the South Lake High School art teacher and Nesly Lattore, the East Ridge High School art teacher, this exciting new art show will be on display through November 30, 2021. The community is invited to stop by to see the current exhibits of student and member artwork, while voting for your favorites. People’s Choice Honors will be awarded at the end of this exhibition.

Artistic Inspirations: Lisa Harris noted, “We are thrilled that so many local art students want to share their outstanding artistic talents with our community. We are also pleased that a number of area high school and Sumter College students have started to come in on Saturdays to create artwork with our Youth Art Club and our SLAL members.” Kathy Henderson added, “The 31 art students really did a fantastic job for this second annual student show, sharing 34 pieces of artwork. We are thankful to the art teachers for getting their 9th to 12th-grade students involved and we have already made plans to continue this show again next year.” Kitty Adler shared, “This really is an exceptional student art show this year. We have plans to involve elementary and middle school art students in other art shows this coming year.”

Student Artists: The East Ridge High School Artists include: Brianna Rodriguez, Leilani Ruiz, Rebekah Brenton, Grace Avery, Natalia Baez Ortiz, Gavin Jones, Lauren Vendrell, Emily Horn, Jadyn Maldonado, Chloe Gilson, Sabrina Marcano, Melanie Najeria, Tiffany Sandars, Camela Coronado, Rylee Galilei, Michael Anniziato, Brianna Hammersby and Annabella Ziegler. The participating South Lake High School Art Students include Julia Getke, Anyeh Urelus, Mollie Garcia, Adah Cooper, Gaia Porter, Zachary Sunrekar, Migdalia Acenscio, Ayleen Landaverde, Haley Hall, Brooke Judd, Angel Hawkins and Sarah Kovaleski. Home School student Madison Winegard participated for the first time.

Julia Getke, SLAL Student Artist

Celebrated Artists: Julia Getke of South Lake noted, “As a foreign exchange student here from Germany, I chose to artistically create an eagle image, since we were assigned to depict artwork for a spirit animal that describes us the best.” Leilani Ruiz of East Ridge shared, “I am very pleased to have two pieces represented in this art show with my versions of animals who are represented like humans.” Jadyn Maldonado of East Ridge added, “My two pieces of artwork depict the translations of Greek myths into nature with Poseidon’s Creed and Keto’s Twin.” Grace Henson of East Ridge noted, “I had fun creating and presenting ’Bubble Bubble’ as my watercolor version of a year-long study about witches and fantasies.

Jennifer Viola noted, “We are so lucky to have so many talented art students at South Lake High and we are so grateful to the South Lake Art league for providing us the opportunity to display our art to the community.” Nesly Latorre, shared, “It was very nice to see all our South Lake students’ artwork on the walls. I am thankful for the opportunity for my students to participate in this art show. The excitement on their faces when they learned their work would be on display is priceless. These opportunities make a huge impact!”

SLAL Membership Benefits: It is always a great time for all local artists to join the South Lake Art League. The Clermont art gallery offers two-member art shows in the spring and fall and two different member fine art photography shows per year. Member’s websites are linked to the SLAL website. Members receive discounted fees on special workshops and classes. Their SLAL Photography Club offers valuable photo instructional meetings. SLAL members are encouraged to volunteer to help with various projects, activities and gallery sitting.

 The South Lake Art League strives to promote all forms of art and its appreciation throughout the South Lake County Area. They work to bring together people interested in the arts and to provide opportunities for participation in classes, workshops and shows. They offer art classes in acrylics, colored pencils, drawing, mixed media, oils, pastels, fine art photography, Zentangle and watercolor with other art-related events.

South Lake Art League Art Show with Students and Parents

Celebrating The Fine Arts In Clermont, Florida: SLAL fine art and photography shows are held in the spring and fall. Children’s Art Classes are held every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 PM. Ages 8 and up. Come to the SLAL Art Gallery to look at their exhibits, purchase artwork, make donations and to support the arts. There are plenty of wonderful opportunities to celebrate the arts here in Central Florida.
