Jeff Thompson is now the proud owner of this amazing Blackstone grill thanks to a generous Christmas present from his mother, Suzanne Thompson of King’s Ridge. Suzanne had been at the Historic Village on November 20th for the Heritage Day Festival and had seen the grill then.  She didn’t buy any that day but thought better of it and asked a friend to get her four chances on the very last day they were sold.  Three hours later, she was the winner and so was Jeff!

The Historical Society would like to thank all the wonderful people who purchased chances on the grill and the other items they offered in their annual “Chance to Win” event.  Thanks also goes to all those who generously donated items for the various baskets and especially to Lowe’s of Clermont for donating that awesome grill.

The Clermont Historical Society and the City of Clermont work together to provide the citizens of our community and visitors from all over the world with the opportunity to step back in time to simpler eras when life moved at a slower pace—a time when people actually made most of what was needed in their daily lives and facetime meant talking to your neighbors across the backyard fence.  In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, why not take time to enjoy life in a slower, more peaceful atmosphere and make a visit to the Historic Village a part of your holiday routine?

The Historic Village is located at 490 West Avenue on the shores of beautiful Lake Minneola and is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  At this time of year, every building is decorated for the holidays in a manner similar to the era of the building.  If you have out-of-town visitors who will not be here on the weekend call the Village Manager, Roxanne Brown, at 352-242-7734 and she may be able to set up a tour for your group during the week.  There is a charge of $5.00 per person over 12 for this arrangement.  During the regularly scheduled hours, a donation of $5.00 per person over 12 is requested.

Are you interested in the history of Clermont or in history in general?  Why not consider joining the Historical Society?  Annual dues is just $25 for an individual and $35 for a couple.  Want to know more about us?  You can visit our website clermonthistoricvillage.org or our Facebook page.  Or, you can come to our monthly meetings held on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Depot at the Historic Village.

Our next meeting is January 10th.
