The Sisters of Sound chorus, like many others, had to make adjustments and sacrifices over the past two years as they navigated the ever changing pandemic. Rehearsals initially moved on line to Zoom, then to the parking lot of the church where the group would normally rehearse, then inside with masks, vaccine requirements, and distancing. Now they are happily singing together again with just a vaccine requirement. “Even though we couldn’t sing together on Zoom, we could still learn about our craft and we could still fellowship together on line,” recalls chorus president Shannon Shelton-Muller, “These adjustments helped keep us together and moving forward until we were able to meet once again in person.” All of that paid off for members of this Lake County women’s a cappella chorus, as they placed 2nd in their area contest this spring and will be moving on to International Competition in November. This will be the group’s 9th appearance on the international stage, where they will compete against approximately 25 other women’s choruses who all sing in the barbershop style.

New membership has been surging, according to Sisters of Sound director Tiana Sandh: “People are not only ready to sing together again, they are ready to connect. And music is an incredible way to foster connection between people.”

In addition to the chorus qualifying, several quartets from within the ranks of Sisters of Sound had a very successful weekend, with quartet In A Chord winning first place in the Southeast. Clermont quartet Serenade wowed the judges and brought home the Razzle Dazzle Award for highest Presentation scores, and all-youth quartet Daphodyls enjoyed a successful debut.  Unaccompanied Minors, Clermont’s young women’s chorus, also under the direction of Tiana Sandh, claimed the Audience Choice award and will also be moving on to International Competition in the fall.

Sisters of Sound welcomes a diverse group of singers: all ages, cultures, and experience levels. If you are a woman who loves to sing, they invite you to visit a rehearsal and see what they are all about.

Sisters of Sound rehearses in Clermont on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30, and all women are invited to join them. They are also available to perform for local special events. Read more about the group at www.sistersofsound.org
