Lance Sewell, Senior Vice President, Orlando Health North Central Region; President, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital was the featured speaker and main event sponsor at June’s South Lake Chamber of Commerce breakfast.
His presentation began with a brief history of the South Lake Hospital, which has for 75 years provided healthcare to residents.
In 1938, a group of community-minded citizens came together to form the Clermont Welfare League. Their simple goal was to build a clinic to meet the needs for health care services in South Lake County. South Lake Hospital was founded in 1947 and over the next seven decades, the hospital continually expanded its services and community outreach to better serve its residents. In 2000 South Lake Hospital moved to its new campus.
Presently, the South Lake Hospital has grown to be a cornerstone of the community. the 180-acre health, wellness and education campus provides a complete care facility.
Orlando Health/South Lake Hospital is expanding.
Phase 1: Realignment of Don Wickham Drive is anticipated to be completed this summer. The project includes realigning Don Wickham Drive to intersect with Legends Way and will include the addition of a stoplight at Citrus Tower Blvd and Legends Way to improve traffic flow entering and exiting the hospital campus
Phase 2: Center for Women’s Health Expansion at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital is expanding to provide additional postpartum and labor and delivery suites, as well as expanded women’s services for the community. This segment of the project will be completed in 2023.
Phase 3: 95-bed Patient Tower: The hospital will be adding a five-story patient tower, as an extension to the existing 140-bed acute care hospital. This expansion will bring new and enhanced services to the community The completed tower also will allow for an expanded intensive care unit. The new tower is anticipated to be completed in late fall 2023.

Lance Sewell provides leadership for Orlando Health South Lake Hospital’s 180-acre campus, including 170 patient beds, an ambulatory surgery center, short-term rehabilitation facility and the National Training Center. He also provides oversight for the greater North Central region.
Since joining Orlando Health in 2006, Lance has successfully guided the community-based, non-profit organization through an ever-changing and challenging time for healthcare organizations. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Orlando Health South Lake, as well as the financial liaison for the hospital’s information systems. He has also led ancillary departments, including accounting, health information management, patient business, materials management, care coordination, outpatient surgical services and three hospital-owned physician practices.
Lance is a certified public accountant and holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Belmont University in Nashville. Heavily involved in the South Lake and Central Florida communities, Lance has served with the South Lake Rotary and Leadership Lake County. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. In addition to his professional associations, he has also served as past board chair for the Community Foundation of South Lake, past board chair of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce.
