The Kiwanis Club of South Lake was proud to present The Neighborhood Center of South Lake (NCSL) with a $1,000 donation to help support their important mission in the community.  On Thursday, July 7, Trish Kry, Executive Director of NCSL visited the club and gave a presentation on the services they provide to help economically disadvantaged families and individuals throughout South Lake County.  Founded in 1972, the Center operates a food pantry and social service center.

Trish said that while there have always been needs in the community, these days, with rents increasing, food prices increasing, and the price of gas at a record high… not to mention, children who receive free breakfast and lunch at school are out for the summer… there is an even higher demand for their services.

The Neighborhood Center of South Lake provides food and services including SNAP application assistance, Medicaid application assistance, access to job opportunities and life-skills training, and referrals to local support groups.  All services are provided free of charge.

The Center assists an average of 1,600 families and 6,000 individuals monthly, more than half of which are children.  In 2021, they provided nearly 1.6 million pounds of food to our neighbors in need.

The Neighborhood Center of South Lake is supported by the generosity of local communities, businesses, and individuals.  Monetary and food donations are always welcome; however, Trish mentioned to the Kiwanis, that right now, there is a critical need for cereal.
