What's more stressful than a hurricane.

June 1 marked the official start of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season. The season will run through Nov. 30, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says it is expected to produce above-average activity which would make this the seventh above-average season in a row. 

NOAA is forecasting a likely range of 14 to 21 named storms (consistent winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 6 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Some items you need and thing to know for hurricane season:

Designate a sheltered area in your home if a hurricane or tornado hits your area (basement, interior room or hallway). If you live in a mobile home, find a nearby shelter).

Items needed: 

A first aid kit. flashlight, NOAA Weather Radio, Cell phone and charger and batteries, 

Food  (nonperishable packaged or canned food and beverages, snack foods, juices for at least 7 days). Water (1-gallon per person per day). Non-electric can opener, paper plates, napkins, plastic cups, and utensils. If you lose electricity, a grill or smoker is a great addition to have on hand. Be sure to have specialty items for infants, small children, the elderly, and family members with disabilities on hand. 
 
Remember to add rain gear, sturdy shoes, and umbrella to your disaster supplies.
 
Important documents and items such as birth certificates, wills, keys and prescriptions should be kept in a waterproof container.
 
If you have a Pet  – have food and water to last at least 7 days. A carrier, leash, water and food bowls, and medications.
 
Keep your gas tanks filled with gasoline.
