Clermont – A long-standing national event to strengthen relationships and build partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve will be celebrated in Clermont Tuesday, Oct. 4.

National Night Out, a free, family-friendly evening will be held at Waterfront Park, 330 3rdStreet from 5 to 8 p.m.

“National Night Out remains a great opportunity for police officers to meet and visit with our neighbors in a fun setting – and not wait for a crisis,” Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway said. “The best way to strengthen the safety of your community is to know your neighbors. Our officers look forward to this evening every year.”

Clermont Police will offer the popular, JR. SWAT Challenge Course, a fun opportunity for children of all ages to run a junior-sized obstacle course complete with monkey bars, balance beams and a low-crawl course. Kids can also participate in a tug-of-war with police officers!

Clermont Police Department and Clermont Fire Department will feature some of their officers and equipment and will host other local law enforcement agencies who will display their vehicles and special tools. Live demonstrations are also scheduled.

The national event was first introduced in 1984 and included more than 400 communities in 23 states. It continues to grow each year.
