A Movie Review By Anthony Ritter
In 1978, Michael Myers made his on-screen debut in Halloween. Over the last 44 years and 12 movies, Michael Myers has always managed to somehow survive and come back to kill again. This weekend, with the release of Michael Myer’s 13th film, its title poses the question: Is it time for Michael Myers reign of terror to finally come to an end? In Halloween Ends, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) has moved on from the events of the previous film and is attempting to live a normal life not in fear. Until she is forced to come face-to-face with Michael Myers one last time.
What follows is The Good, The Bad, and The Spoilers of Halloween Ends.
The Good
I don’t think anyone would ever describe a Halloween movie as being “deep”, but Halloween Ends attempts to scare audiences by presenting them with something that seems all too real. Throughout the first half of the film, we are shown how trauma can have a very real impact on how people behave and act. Audiences will find themselves wondering if killers are born evil, or does their environment turn them evil.
One of the best things about slasher films is the slashing. Once the ball gets rolling, audiences are given brutal, gruesome, violent kills. Michael Myers and his counter-part carve their way through the town similar to the previous film Halloween Kills.
The Bad
One of the only problems I had with this film was the amount of time you have to wait before the killing starts. When you see a Michael Myers movie, you expect to see him killing people. Other than a glimpse, we have to wait for almost half the movie before we get to see him kill someone. What the film lacks in killing, it does make up for with its intriguing story.
My Overall Opinion
I love horror films, but I prefer the ones that give you the creeps over the typical slasher horror films. If you are expecting nonstop violence, the slow start of Halloween Ends will be a disappointment. That being said, Halloween Ends does give a great ending to a story that has been ongoing for over 4 decades. If you have Peacock, you are able to stream this movie now for free.
