“Into The Woods” will be performed by the students of the Lake Minneola High School Theatre Department on April 27, 28, and 29 at 7 pm.  The musical will be a collaboration with the theatre, choral, and band departments and will feature a student-performed pit orchestra for the show.

Over the past 12 years, the LMHS Theatre Department has performed countless plays and musicals and has a student-run improvisational program.

Kellie Lawton, a proud Minneola Theatre Booster and the mother of Ryleigh, a senior and student president of the theatre program, praised the group and describe some of their accomplishments:

“This year, two significant accolades were received by their Thespian Troupe 7719.  The first was being selected to take their full-scale production of the dramatic play “Rabbit Hole” to the Florida State Thespian Festival as a Mainstage production.  Only 7 schools in the entire State are selected for this prestigious honor and this was the first time in Lake Minneola theatre department history that their show was chosen! Our LMHS theatre students performed their full-scale production at the historic Tampa Theatre for an audience of 1300 fellow actors, teachers and parent chaperones.  The students had 10 hours total to load in and build their set, rehearse, perform the show and strike their set.  It was truly amazing to watch their hard work and dedication and the audience’s responses to their performance were truly magical.  The audience laughed, cried and cheered for the actors and the crew and they received a huge standing ovation at the end of the show that went on for several minutes”.

Lawton continues, “At the State Festival, they also performed their One Act show, “Booby Trap”.  Their One Act was 1 of only 2 shows chosen from our District to perform at the State level.  During the District competition, the qualifier to State, the show not only received Top Honors and Critic’s Choice, but also received additional accolades for Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Outstanding Audio Design.  Another first in the school’s history. At the State competition, the show received an overall Superior rating and a perfect score for Technical elements. The Troupe also received 5 Superior ratings and 1 Excellent rating for Individual Events, with 3 individual events receiving Top Honors, the highest award at the State level. Top Honors were awarded for monologues, duet acting and costume design.  This was the second year in a row that the Troupe received 3 Top Honors recognitions at State!”
