East Ridge HS (ERHS) Coach Angelica Gomez, Lake Minneola HS Coach Lisa Bryant (LMHS), and Taveras HS Coach Michelle Metheny (THS) along with their assistant coaches and teams traveled to Jacksonville to represent Lake County Special Olympics at the FHSAA Track & Field State Championships.

The ERHS Girls Special Olympics Unified Track & Field team made it to the state championships and placed 4th in the 4×100 and 2nd in the 4×400.

Some girls had to race as late as 10 pm, and for some of the students, it was their first time staying in a hotel away from their parents.

It was truly an amazing experience for the coaches, assistant coaches, parents, and especially the students.

Some of the athletes who traveled to the event to represent the Lake County Special Olympics at the FHSAA Track & Field State Championships were Mikayla DeAnnuntis, Mikayla Franklin, Alyssa Fernandez, Faith Fernandez, Abigail Polidura,
Lizbeth Galindo, Amirah Newton, and Ava Valenta.

Congratulations!
