The City of Groveland invites the public to join in a morning of special activities on Memorial Day, May 29, to honor those who sacrificed all in service to their country.

The morning will start with a free breakfast at 8:15 a.m. for veterans and their guest at the E.L. Puryear Building at 243 S. Lake Ave. The breakfast will be followed by a special ceremony.

The Memorial Day program will include participation by the Trilogy Orlando Veterans Association, Cornerstone Hospice and Patriot Guard Riders.

The City will once again honor hometown veterans who died in service by featuring the seven men on banners hung on utility poles along State Road 50 through the heart of downtown Groveland.

The banners were donated in 2018 by the Groveland Historical Society. Four men featured on the banners are World War II veterans: Lester Roberts, Ed Sibley, Earlie Story and Ray Tedder. Two served in Vietnam: Ronald Gaffney and Jess Thomas. One veteran, Eric Ramirez, was killed while serving in Iraq.

As is the City’s custom, the banners will remain flying through the 4th of July.

More information regarding these commemorative banners and Groveland’s Memorial Day Tribute can be found on Groveland’s website, www.Groveland-FL.org, and the City’s Facebook page @CityofGroveland.
