Lake County, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in partnership with the Lake County Public Works Department, is launching a progressive traffic signal update initiative along State Road 50 (SR 50) from Grand Highway to the Orange County line. FDOT and the Lake County Public Works Department are committed to enhancing the traveling experience along this corridor.

In response to increasing traffic congestion on SR 50, FDOT and the Lake County Public Works Department are jointly working on a plan to make upgrades to traffic signals with video detection, signal controllers with software to monitor traffic signals, CCTVs at most of the traffic signals, and specialty video cameras that continuously count vehicles.

The enhanced video detection cameras will provide real-time traffic data which will contribute to the overall optimization of traffic flow. Although these enhancements may not eliminate traffic congestion entirely, they should substantially improve traffic flow and efficiency.

The equipment for these signal upgrades is anticipated to arrive within the calendar year, and the Traffic Operations team will be responsible for installing the equipment.
