The Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Community Service Award honors residents or organizations that contribute to the South Lake community; they lend their time, efforts, and talents outside any volunteer work done for their employer.
The month’s Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award was presented to Evelisse Bookhout of Hands of Hope America by Doug Shields, Lake County Commissioner.

“Evelisse is truly a remarkable individual who has dedicated her life to serving others. Her unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation and delivering essential resources to families and individuals in need is truly inspiring. As an ordained minister, veteran, leader, and advocate, she has made a huge impact on the lives of countless people in our community.
She and her team aim to provide accessible, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based services through various programs like emergency food assistance, social services, education, financial literacy, and youth enrichment. She is the Executive Director for Hands of Hope America. She has recently received the Business of the Year Award from Lake Technical College. Hands of Hope America and Lake Technical College have also partnered to provide ESOL classes in the Four Corners Community”.
