Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Kahley Armstrong as head softball coach.

Armstrong comes to Montverde Academy with a wealth of success in softball as both a coach and a player. Her most recent coaching position was head softball coach at South Lake High School in nearby Groveland for the past four seasons. In her four seasons there, she led the team to 58 wins, including a district and regional championship in 2022 and an appearance in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championship game that season.

Her experience also includes serving as tournament director for USSSA Fastpitch and a personal softball trainer for ProSwings from 2016 to 2019.

A 2016 graduate of the University of Central Florida, Armstrong’s experience also includes one season as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2017 season.

Prior to her coaching career, Armstrong was a student-athlete at the collegiate level and was a four-year member of the softball team at UCF. During her time with the Knights, she compiled a .311 career batting average (216-for-695) and is the program’s current record holder for most stolen bases in a career (125) and is the record co-holder for most in one season (43).

As a collegiate student-athlete, Armstrong won numerous awards. She was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team in 2014 and 2015, and she earned All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) First Team honors in 2015. She also was named to the Conference USA’s All-Freshman team in 2012. Additionally, after graduating, she was drafted sixteenth overall by the Dallas Charge of the National Fastpitch League.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be coming to Montverde Academy,” Armstrong said. “I am super excited to continue to build upon the growing success of the program. There is great talent on the roster, and I believe we are going to continue to have great success.”

Armstrong will be taking over a program that finished 23-7 last season and advanced into the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A state semifinal round after having won the district and regional championships. With no seniors on last season’s team, the Eagles expect to have the entire roster return for the 2024 season.
