Hello Clermont Champions,
Our annual Red, White & BOOM! event was wonderful! It was hot, but the rain held off and best estimates are more than 10,000 people stopped by and gathered lakeside to celebrate our country’s birthday. The evening was filled with music, food, fun and the fireworks display did not disappoint. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Waterfront Park and to our City staff who made it possible.
The first episode of a new program to help keep you up to date on things happening in and around Clermont was introduced in June. Scheduled to be regularly updated, each video will feature a City department, a Clermont business, offer safety tips from our police and fire departments and share some local history. The next edition will be out soon, so watch for “Keeping Up With Clermont” on the City’s website and social media platforms.
I was pleased to be part of the grand opening of the new Floor & Décor on Highway 50. It is quite a store and the staff is ready to serve Clermont. Progress continues on Costco for a scheduled November opening and we are looking forward to the Black Bear Kitchen, Salt Shack and Johnsons Village Marketplace opening soon in downtown.
As we move into July, we need to think about and prepare for storm season. Talk to your family, build a hurricane kit and discuss plans with friends and neighbors should you need to evacuate. Clermont has been very fortunate for many storm seasons, but it only takes one storm to ruin everything. Visit www.FloridaDisaster.org or https://www.lakecountyfl.gov/Emergency-Management for more information and helpful guides.
“Lunch with the Mayor” will return Tuesday, September 5 at Amore Italian Ristorante, 2608 S. Highway 27. If your schedule allows, I hope you will consider attending.
I encourage you to visit our website at www.ClermontFl.gov to learn more details on upcoming meetings, events and activities. Also, please continue to let me know what questions or concerns you have about things in Clermont. You can always reach me at tmurry@clermontfl.org.
Until next time,
Mayor Tim Murry
