Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, located at 1900 Don Wickman Dr. Clermont, reached a significant milestone on Thursday, February 8th, with the opening of its five-story patient tower. This addition has fortified the hospital’s capacity by introducing 95 new beds to the existing 140-bed acute care facility. With this expansion, the hospital is poised to nearly double its current bed count, marking a substantial leap forward in serving the healthcare needs of the community. At the heart of this expansion lies a steadfast commitment to cutting-edge technology and compassionate care.

On February 12th,  Orlando Health South Lake Hospital celebrated yet another milestone with the inauguration of its new main hospital entrance, the Center for Women and Babies entrance and the outpatient entrance.

built in 1941

The Hospital Has Come A Long Way since 1941 when a one-floor concrete block building of 28,000 sq ft was built on the shores of Center Lake. The Welfare League sponsored the operation of the clinic which contained offices for a Public Health Nurse and a doctor. Dr. John McGuire maintained office hours until leaving for the Armed Services. During the war years, two retired doctors, Dr. E. M. Coleman and Dr. H.S. Turville, served the community. In 1947, a hospital board was established and in May 1972, a three-story addition to the hospital was completed, making the total bed capacity 68.

Currently, the hospital has grown to a 180-acre health, wellness and education campus providing a complete continuum of quality care to the citizens of the South Lake community.

It offers a variety of medical services including diagnostic imaging, orthopedics, robotic surgery, urology, and cardiac care among others. The Center for Women’s Health offers complete care for women from maternity to maturity. Orlando Health South Lake Hospital is also home to the Orlando Health National Training Center, which provides total body fitness, advanced rehabilitative services, and athletic training.

Congratulations to Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. The completion of the five-story patient tower, coupled with the inauguration of specialized entrances and services, marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey toward excellence in healthcare delivery.
