Berkemeier will oversee the operations of all Montverde Academy baseball teams, including its varsity, junior varsity and middle school programs.
“I am thrilled to welcome Greg as our new Director of Baseball,” said Montverde Academy Director of Athletic Operations, Khrystal Phiri. “With his extensive experience and dedication to the sport, I look forward to seeing him lead our coaching staff, expand our program, and elevate our athletes to new heights.”
Berkemeier has a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience. Currently, he is serving as a private baseball instructor with The Upper Deck where he created individual development plans for offense and defense, as well as goal-setting plans for the students under his care.
Prior to that, Berkemeier spent many years as a baseball coach at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) in Melbourne, Florida, including head coach from 2007 through 2021 and assistant coach from 2002 through 2007.
While with Florida Tech, he led the Panthers to 389 wins, a .588 win percentage and four NCAA Division II post season appearances. Twenty-two of his players went on to play professionally. He oversaw all assistant coaches, team managers, and work study students and managed the program budget and oversaw fundraising efforts for numerous facility improvements, including lights, new dugouts, a covered batting facility, backstop renovations and other program needs.
Prior to that, he served as assistant coach at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, from 2001 to 2002, where he helped design and implement practice and training programs for outfielders, hitters, and baserunners.
Before that, he served as a student assistant and graduate coach at his alma mater, Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. During his time there in the 2001 season, the Falcons had the highest team batting average in the nation amongst NCAA Division I teams with a .362 clip.
Berkemeier graduated from Bowling Green University with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 1999 and sport administration in 2001.
“I am very excited to be presented this opportunity at Montverde Academy and working with the student-athletes and coaching staff,” Berkemeier said. “Montverde Academy is a well-respected institution, and I thank Khrystal Phiri for bringing me aboard, and I look forward to getting started.”
