The Clermont Historical Society (CHS) celebrates the completion of a much-needed handicap ramp, providing access to the Kern and Townsend Houses located at the Clermont Historic Village. Last week, dedicated crews from the city of Clermont labored tirelessly to ensure the ramp’s availability for visitors the past weekend. Prior to its installation, these two houses stood as the sole structures in the Village inaccessible to individuals using wheelchairs or walkers. With every other building either equipped with a ramp or built at ground level, the absence of accessibility hindered the experience for those with mobility challenges. Unless you were personally using a wheelchair or walker or were trying to tour the Village with someone who was, you cannot appreciate how frustrating it was for those individuals. The collaboration between the Historical Society and the city has been ongoing, culminating in this significant improvement. Gratitude is extended to all city leaders, employees, contractors and CHS volunteers whose efforts brought this project to fruition.
The Village is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Admission to the Village is by donation. $5.00 per person over 12 is requested.
