The Town of Oakland, in partnership with the Oakland Nature Preserve, is thrilled to announce that it has been honored with the prestigious Environmental Stewardship Award from the Florida League of Cities. This esteemed award is presented to one municipality each year and recognizes programs that promote environmental sustainability, improve and protect environmental conditions, or provide environmental education and outreach.

The Town of Oakland contributes more than $100,000 annually to the operation of the Preserve, with additional funding coming from generous community donations. Nestled on over 150 acres of Town-owned land, the Oakland Nature Preserve and the Town of Oakland welcomed over 40,000 guests in 2023 to explore its boardwalks and diverse ecosystems. The Preserve also partners with the Town-owned school to provide hands-on educational opportunities for students at Oakland Avenue Charter School.

This Environmental Stewardship Award underscores the Town of Oakland’s unwavering dedication to fostering a sustainable and environmentally conscious community. The Oakland Nature Preserve stands as a testament to the Town’s initiative to ensure that its natural beauty and surroundings are preserved for future generations.
