Tebow and other forever friends are hoping for a home this weekend.

The Lake County Animal Shelter is sheltering more than twice the number of dogs it can comfortably care for. The shelter typically operates best with around 100 dogs, but they currently have over 200 dogs in their care.

In response to this surge, the shelter waives all adoption and reclaim fees. This includes dogs that may have outdated microchip information, allowing owners to reclaim their lost pets without any charges.

For those who are interested in helping but not ready for a full-time commitment, the shelter offers two foster programs:

  1. Shelter Break Sleepover: This program allows potential adopters to take a dog home for up to 30 days to see how the pet fits with their family and lifestyle.
  2. Staycation Program: This is a two-week commitment where foster parents act as “adoption ambassadors,” sharing their experiences and photos of the pet to help find them a permanent home.

The shelter, located at 12280 CR 448, Tavares, is open this weekend from 1 to 5 pm both Saturday and Sunday, for those interested in adopting or fostering a pet.  Visit website LC ANIMAL SHELTER to learn more about forever pets.

With the community’s support, the shelter hopes to reduce its dog population and find loving homes for all its animals.
